Dagger, dagger hilt plate
A Roman dagger hilt-plate. An iron plate of hollow cross-section and has a well-formed, almost crescentic, pommel and a pronounced central expansion of the grip. The plate is noticeably thinner below the expansion and the hilt guard is slightly attenuated. One arm is almost complete with a nail hole but has broken towards the outer end. The second arm has broken at the nail hole. There are nail holes through the centre of the pommel and through the central expansion. This hilt plate is similar in form to that from the dagger from Copthall Court, City of London.
