Albert.
This large pastel drawing portrays the future George VI a child . It was drawn by American artist Edwin Abbey (1852-1911) as a study for the official painting of the Coronation of Edward VII in 1903-04.
George VI( 1895-1952) was about nine years old when it was drawn.
His first name was Albert and he unexpectedly became King after the abdication of his elder brother Edward. Elizabeth II is his eldest daughter.
Abbey was a painter of largescale murals and therefore well equipped to portray the detailed crowded scene of the Coronation.
