Clement Royds (1785-1854) was a woollen merchant and banker. He was senior partner in the bank Clement Royds & Co., 1827-1854. He was born in Falinge, Rochdale to James Royds and Mary, daughter of Charles Smith of Summer Castle, Rochdale. The Royds had been woollen merchants for centuries and initially Clement joined the family business. In 1827 he expanded into banking.
