Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1742-1765
Millbank Reach, Chelsea
In this view of Millbank Reach, seen from the River Thames, workers are shown moving timber on the banks of the river. A boat is moored nearby and, on the left, a sailing boat and a smaller craft can be seen. Just beyond them in the distance is a church, clearly visible through a gap in the sails.
Samuel Scott trained as a marine artist who specialised in views of the River Thames and depicted landmarks such as Westminster Bridge and Old London Bridge.
