Mounted on cardboard, possibly a portion of a girdle? Girdle = a cord or band placed around the hips or waist, used to contain loose garments and hang objects from (Glossary Hayward: 434). 'Girdles could be very simple in their construction and they were worn around the waist or hip. They were often made of a length of a lightweight silk such sarsenet...lengths of sarsenet were supplied for this purpose and just tied round the waist of the wearer and knotted at the front (Hayward: 354).
