Cap
Knitted wool hat, dark brown-red. Yarn diameter 1 mm, 2 ply, Z spun, 9 stitches per inch. Stocking stitch, decreasing stitches to the top of the hat, cut inside edges heavily fulled; large flap at back and small brim at front. Weight 168 grams. A gold quarter-noble of Edward III was found in the rim of the cap (96.63/327).
The cap was part of the collection of the Guildhall Museum and was found by workmen digging foundations for new buildings in Finsbury, just to the north of the City of London.
