Fashion — C. 1895
Coat, jacket
Child's long sleeved, single-breasted brown corduroy jacket. The round neckline has no collar and is very small, perhaps too small for a child's neck. Machine stitched with five plastic composition buttons and worked buttonholes. One slash pocket with false flap either side. Back in two pieces with centre back seam. Body lined with twilled brown cotton, sleeves with coarse white cotton tabby. This jacket is an example of the clothing that was mass-produced in London’s sweat shops. Such items were cheaply made and cheaply sold.
