Waistcoat
Cat no. 46 in 'Men's Costume 1580-1750', pp. 40/41: 'Waistcoat, 1748-50; crimson (BCC 240, Medici Crimson) watered silk; flower, scroll and sprig borders woven for / waistcoat fronts; the back is of buff linen, and the lining white linen. The material is comparable with designs by Anna Maria Gartwaite and is very probably Spitalfields. Long waistcoats were still worn in the middle of the 18th century, but the short length of this one anticipates the changes to come. Condition: good. A 1300'. Also plate 21.
