Dress fabric, length
Panel of brocaded silk with multicoloured floral design on ivory satin ground. Each spray contains recognisable flowers in their natural colours. Selvedge to selvedge width, raw edges each end. The pattern of this silk is typical of the botanical naturalism of the mid 1740s.
Technique: brocaded satin, probably, satin of 8. The silk is tightly woven and thus, although the découpure is quite coarse, the bright colours and tight weaving disguise the fact. The selvage is also woven in satin but with one central green stripe. Découpoure: 12(?).
