Jacket, lounge jacket
A man's black single-breasted lounge jacket, part of a three-piece suit. The printed label stitched to the inside of the right inner breast pocket reads 'DOLAND & LARCOMBE, Ltd.,/ 15 & 17, LUDGATE HILL, E.C.4 / [P H Light Esq ]/ No. [S 18392 15 08 /38]'.
The owner was with a firm of Solicitors in Lincoln's Inn and this was his 'City suit'. He explained:
'The suit was made to measure for me with two fittings and I bought it at what I understood to be the only 'sales' they ever had and the cost was about £4 - I still have the cashed cheque and no doubt the actual Bill somehwere - It is extremely good quality, single breasted black jacket with double breasted waistcoat and the usual striped trousers. I bought it to get married in and have probably worn it not more than a dozen times. As far as I can see it is unmarked but after coming back from 6 years army service I am afraid that it never fitted me again.'
The original Barclays Bank Ltd cheque used to pay for the suit is stitched to the lining of the back of the jacket.
