Coat, wedding tail-coat
By the 1840s English tailoring had developed its close attention to perfect fit which enhanced the male body. Using woollen cloths which could be steamed and shaped, garments like this tail-coat made of navy blue wool showed off the shoulders and opened at the front to reveal the line of the trousers. The dark lines are set off by gilt metal buttons.
