This type of shawl was produced in North India, and was brought from there in 1849 by Lewis Charles Innes. The heavy floss silk embroidery is worked on a fragile net background to creat a transparent effect. This garment was worn by Innes' mother on a visit to the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Shawl of cream floss silk embroidered onto grey silk net in long and short satin stitch. Approximately square with inset border of Paisley motifs and central roundel surrounded by Paisley motifs. Fringed.
