Jacket, work uniform jacket
Postillion jacket worn on the last Royal Mail coach run between Norwich and London on 8 January 1846.
Jacket is made of blue wool trimmed with silver ribbon and three vertical rows of mother-of-pearl buttons at the front, with the two outer rows of buttons being decorative. The jacket is made with a centre front button closure, stand collar, long sleeves and two horizontal strips of silver ribbon forming decorative pockets at the waist.
This run was the last Royal Mail coach that ran from London, although regional coaches continued into the 1850s before also being replaced by the railways.
