Fashion — 1831-1840
Dress
Dress of figured linen, with boned bodice, fastening in front, full sleeves. White ground roller-printed with a faint spot and a tiny jerky sprig derived from those on shawls - in red, purple, green and black. The pattern is comparable to some in pattern books of painted textiles in the V&A. Such tiny patterns could probably stay in use over a number of years. Several repeats would have been engraved on the roller. The hem has been lined with good quality linen. This is a pretty dress in good condition. Fabric width: 23 1/4 ins; pattern: height: 1 7/8 ins.; width 1 1/4 ins. Metal hooks and eyes at the back for fastening.
