Fashion — 1875-1880; 1750-1770 (fabric)
Dress
Originally the property of Queen Charlotte and given by her to the last owner's great- grandmother Nancy Pawsey, then altered once about 1840 and finally to a high necked bustle dress c 1880.
Anne (Nancy) Wilton, daughter of John WIlton of Methley? Yorkshire Born November 6th 1747, died September 27th 1814, married at St Anne's Westminster by license June 4th 1776 to Joseph Passy (at that time spelt Pawsey) Private Secretary to the Duke of York. She was a very skilled embroideress and apparently taught Queen Charlotte and her court ladies to embroider. There is said to be some of her work in Windsor Castle. The 1880s alteration was done by her grandson's wife Helen Deare who died at Hove, Brighton in December 1891. Nancy Passy's husband died in 1808, very possibly she was not at court after that. Queen Charlotte also gave her a tall wooden stand on which she put the vases of flowers she copied in embroidery.
