Skirt, petticoat
Salmon pink ribed silk petticoat matching the gown. Furbelows, frills and metal tassels decorate the front, the frills and furbelows are edged in braid. Centre back slit opening and drawstring at back centre section. Front section is curved down at the waist and bound. Alterations at the waist - it was once pleated. Condition: good but faded.
Catalogue note by Natalie Rothstein. Plain corded silk of a colour popular in the 1820s and 1830s. It is a very heavy silk and the trimming looks pseudo rather than genuinely C18. The selvage also looks more like a C19 one.
