Fashion — 1901-1902
Skirt, dress skirt
This skirt is part of a dress that was copied after a gown worn by the actress Ellaline Terriss when she played Joan Trevelyan in 'Sweet and Twenty', a comdey by Basil Hood, produced at the Vaudeville Theatre on 24 April 1901.
Janet Arnold included this dress in her book 'Patterns of Fashion: Englishwomen's dresses and their construction c. 1860-1940' (pages 50-51). She described it as 'a reception gown in white spotted net over a foundation of ivory satin and ruched satin ribbon.'
