Bodice
1890s bodice made from painted Chinese c18th silk. Floral design, the outline drawn in a fine line and a white base applied before the colour. The design repeats fairly regularly. The front has been cut and the bodice is entirely late C19 and lined with machine-woven cotton. 3/4 length sleeves trimmed with cotton lace at cuffs. Metal hook and eye fastenings at front. The draped bodice is quite unsuitable for the fabric and is causing it to crack and shed painted areas.
