Marshal Soult, Duke of Dalmatia
Print engraved with an equestrian portrait of Marshal Soult, Duke of Dalmatia on horseback. The portrait is part of a series of equestrian prints published by A.Park numbered 'No26 horses'. Published September 10th 1838. Such portraits of heroic, allegorical and historical figures would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home.
Soult was a French General and statesman. In 1838, when this portrait was produced, Soult was an ambassador in London. He spent much of his military career fighting Wellington and is said the two men met at the coronation of Queen Victoria, which they both attended.
