General Sir Robert Sale
Print engraved with an equestrian portrait of the character General Sir Robert Sale on horseback The portrait is part of a series of equestrian prints published by A.Park numbered 'No33 horses'. Such portraits of heroic, allegorical and historical figures would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home.
Major-General Sir Robert Henry Sale was married to Lady Florentia Sale. Lady Sale was captured during the First Afghan War of 1842 and wrote her journal in captivity. The journal was published and became a bestseller.
