Mr Cullen as Blueskin
Portrait of the actor Mr Cullen in the role of Blueskin. Published February 1840. Such plates were sold as theatrical souvenirs. Prints like this could be coloured at home, though this one has been left as bought.
Cullen has been working as an actor at the Surrey Theatre for several years before taking the role of Blueskin in the popular play "Jack Sheppard". Cullen was charged with bigamy offences. During his trial actors such as E.F. Saville came to court to testify his good character. It was suggested that Cullen had forgotten the details of his first marriage after sustaining a head wound. Witnesses noted the part of Blueskin required a good memory, and the court found him guilty.
