Printed Ephemera — 1836-1850
Mr T.P.Cooke as Ben Treenant
Theatrical portrait plate engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr T.P. Cooke in the role of Ben Trenant. Such plates were sold as theatrical souvenirs to be coloured at home. This copy has been coloured by hand.
The sheet shows a character from the play 'The Lost Ship', by Thompson Townsend. Cooke's performance in the role of Ben Trenant was particularly celebrated, and referred to by critics reviewing subsequent revivals of the nautical melodrama.
