Printed Ephemera — 1836-1860
Mr Gomersal as Napoleon Buonaparte in the Battle of Waterloo
Uncoloured theatrical souvenir sheet, engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr Gomersal in the role of Napoleon Buonaparte in the Battle of Waterloo. Published as 'No 14' of a series of equestrian or 'horses' portraits these would have been sold as theatrical souvenirs. Gomersal gave numerous performances as Napoleon, including a run at Astley's, South of the river, known for its equestrian dramas. According to critics Gomersal's early performances in the role exceeded his later efforts.
