Printed Ephemera — 1841-1860
Mr G Bennet as Banquo
Hand coloured, engraved theatrical portrait plates of the actor Mr George Bennett in the role of Banquo. Such sheets would have been sold as theatrical souvenirs to theatregoers.
Bennett played Banquo at the Covent Garden theatre. He was well-received in supporting roles such as Banquo and Macduff, but would later join Mr Phelp's company at Sadler's Wells. Bennett would go on to earn acclaim for his portrayal of Caliban and was described as "most at home in characters swayed by glowing excitement or deep disappointment".
