Port & River — 1905-1907
Ticket, steamer ticket
A one penny ticket issued between 1905-1907 by the London County Council for travel on one of their Thames paddle steamers from Greenwich Pier. The LCC commenced their paddle steamer service between Greenwich and Hammersmith in 1905, operating a total of 30 boats which ran every 15 minutes. The cost of a single fare was just 1d - and the boats became known as the 'Penny Steamers'. The service was not cost effective and was closed down in 1907.
