Fan, court dress fan
Fan of white ostrich feathers with mother-of-pearl sticks and guard. The silver metal loop has an lenth of wide cream moire ribbon tied in a large bow. The fan was carried by a young debutante for her formal presentation at court. Court Dress regulations required women to wear feather plumes or carry feathers when being presented at court. This ceremony where young aristocratic girls were formally introduced to the Queen marked their transition from childhood to adulthood.
