Catalogue note by Natalie Rothstein: Leaf of stiffened semi-transparent black silk, painted with a scene of a couple in 18th century dress on a river bank in the centre, and on the right, with a spray of pink flowers, on the left garlands of roses and small blue flowers, all interspersed with meandering lines of gold sequins. 18 sticks and guards of black wood with simple piercing and carving decorated in silver and gold. Gold metal loop.
