Fan with silk crepe leaf edged with loom-made black silk ribbon and hand-painted with bats, stars and a crescent moon, signed 'E de Valeriola'. Black wood sticks feature a simple carved design, are decorated in gold and are held together with a gold metal loop hinge.
The artist, Edmond-Aldred de Valeriold (1877-1956), was a Belgian sculptor, portraitist and medalist.
