Bodice, wedding dress bodice
Wedding dress bodice. Pearl white silk damask with small floral pattern. Boat shaped neckline. Front cut in two pieces, with seam down centre front and two long vertical darts in each panel. Back cut in six shaped pieces, no darts. Centre back opening with self covered buttons and buttonholes. Sleeves, reaching just above elbow length, cut in two pieces. Low waist level at sides; front and back centre pieces lower, especially at back to accommodate the bustle underneath. Trimmings at neck and hem (and originally at cuffs as well but no longer there) of concertina pleating of plain silk with satin weave. Front bodice boned and under sleeve seams. Bodice lined with white twilled cotton; trimming lined with book muslin. Condition: one button has fallen off and it's kept with item; some staining in the front pleats.
