Scarf, pashmina
Rectangular wool pashmina with fringe edging printed with the Union Jack. The foreground shows a cut-out taken from a photo of Queen Elizabeth II taken in 1952 by Dorothy Wilding (the image is flipped). A red rose is added near the Queen's left elbow, as well as a rosette in Union Jack colours with the McQueen logo, a small 'c' inside capital 'Q'. The whole image looks as if it has been slightly scorched.
The pashima was produced for McQueen's autumn/winter 2008/2009 collection, which included many pieces printed with the Union Jack. McQueen explained the reasoning behind this collection: 'I've got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden and I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and become a queen'.
