Cup
This part of a tin-glazed ware cup or tea bowl was found on an archaeological excavation in Church Street, Isleworth, close to Kew Gardens. The cup is decorated with trees and foliage created by using a sponge. Tea became a fashionable drink in the 18th century. It was imported from China and was very expensive at first. Tea-drinking created a need for specialised cups, teapots and kettles so local pottery industries started to produce new teawares.
