Brush, back brush
Back brush with wooden handle marked BGBC (for Bethnal Green Borough Council). The brush was used at the public bath and wash house in Cheshire Street, opened by Bethnal Green council in 1900.
The baths provided local residents with a place to bathe and to wash their clothes. A hot bath and the use of a towel, soap and brush would have cost as little as one penny. Each bath was enclosed in its own cabin, which was often furnished with a seat, a hook for clothing, and a mirror.
