Boot
Pair of men’s brown/black leather lace-up hobnailed boots, in an advanced condition of deterioration. Square toed ankle boots with hob nails inserted into the outer sole and heel of the boots in a regular pattern. Small metal eyelets run up CF of boot with tongue, small pieces of laces retained in the bottom row of eyelets. Blue and beige twill tape heel loops are hand stitched into the interior of the boot along the CB seam. No visible producer or manufactures markings.
These boots were discovered in the floor of St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, London, in 2007. There is known restoration work to have taken place in St Pauls throughout the nineteenth century; this would coincide with the speculative date of these boots and their consequential burial.
