Christ as Salvator Mundi
Pilgrim badge from an unknown shrine in the form of a standing figure of Jesus Christ as Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World). Christ wears a loin cloth and has a cross nimbus around his head (a four-armed cross within a halo). He holds an orb surmounted by a cross in his right hand, which symbolises the world, and he stands on the back of a dove. There were a large number of relics of Christ at shrines around Western Europe and these often became popular pilgrimage destinations. Pilgrims would buy souvenirs of their journey, such as badges, at these shrines.
