Plan of London and its environs
Cream silk handkerchief with hand-coloured border; plate print in black ink by David Evans, Crayford, 1848. This 'Plan of London and its Environs' was produced exclusively for Welch Margetson & Co, a firm founded in 1832 who specialised in menswear and who are still in existence today. The inscription (upper left) in ink 'Eddison 1848' was presumably made by the original owner.
Hand stitched hems. Caption: "Plan of London and its environs published as the Act directs by Welsh and Margetson, London" with limits of London past marked. Scale 9 cm - 1 mile.
