The Royal Chain of Family Line
Cotton handkerchief dyed turkey red; lithographic print in dark brown ink, 1853-1857. This handkerchief was produced before the birth of Queen Victoria's last child, Princess Beatrice, born in 1857. Like many handkerchiefs of the period, it has been printed hastily, causing the image to run untrue to the grain, so that it cannot now be straightened.
Cream coarse weave cotton handkerchief copper plate printed in brown/red and black; hand stitched hems. Red ground with three rows of portrait medallions showing Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and eight of their children with their dates of birth and rhyming couplet describing each one. Entitled: "The Royal Chain of Family Line"; design interspersed with crowns and bordered with laurel wreaths enclosing roses, thistles and shamrocks. Tear in bottom right corner and bottom right crown.
