Handkerchief, commemorative handkerchief
This is a handkerchief commemorating the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth. It was made by Mabel Lucie Atwell, both an illustrator and artist. Born in Mile End, London, she was the ninth child of ten children born to a butcher. She became famous for her contributions to children's books, postcards, greeting cards and advertisements in the 1930s and 40's. Her appealing pictures of cherubic children with sturdy legs became her trademark.
