Corset
Black cotton corset, lined with white linen, the top edge trimmed with pink lace, and stay stitches for bones stitched in pink silk. Opening at centre front with five keyhole and stud fasteners, and 18 pairs of eyelets either side of centre back bones for lacing. It is strongly boned thoughout, with additional stitched cording on the bust sections which is typical of the period and creates the hourglass figure.
The lining is inscribed 'Superior Watchspring Steels, Patent 7419'. The patent describes the method of stitching the seams devised by W.H. Symington and W. Anderson.
