Coin, dupondius
A copper alloy dupondius coin of Emperor Trajan, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 98-117. The back of the coin depicts Providentia, the female personification of foreseeing. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 114-117.
Obv: Draped and radiate bust of Trajan, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC PARTHICO PM TR P COS VI PP. Rev: Providentia, standing left, holding a caduceus (a winged staff held by messengers and heralds) in her left hand and resting her left arm on a column, in her right hand she points a wand towards a globe by her feet. Rev inscription: PROVIDENTIA AVGVSTI SPQR, SC in field.
