Printed Ephemera — 1901-1965
Scrapbook, label
This notebook is pasted with sample bottle labels printed in both Hebrew and English. They were used for labelling wines and spirits bottled by the kosher distillery, M. Chaikin & Co. Limited, located on the corner of Brick Lane and Fournier Street, Spitalfields. This family firm produced kosher wine and spirits both in the UK and in Palestine. They also ran an off-licence at 72-74 Brick Lane, and supplied London's East End Jewish community with kosher wines and spirits for nearly 80 years. The workshop and distillery closed in 1976.
