Dress
Printed silk dress, autumn/winter 2004-2005. Designed by Paul Smith
A silk sleeveless dress from the Paul Smith 'blue' range made from two printed chiffons in a 1920's inspired style with a handkerchief effect hemline at the sides and back. All the edges have a picot finish. The black synthetic satin underslip is trimmed with narrow mid-blue synthetic lace. The dress was donated by Paul Smith Ltd. Smith introduced his first women's wear collection in 1994.
Quirky and original prints derived from everyday or found objects, or inspired by signage or graphic art, are one of Paul Smith's signatures. The patchwork of floral prints used to create this dress was selected because, like the cut of the dress, it was 'reminiscent of bygone times'.
