Skirt
Silk skirt, 2004. Designed by Michiko Koshino. Michiko Koshino is a Japanese London based designer. She began designing in the 1970s and opened her first London store in 1984. Her Motorking club-wear label had a huge following in the club scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Koshino is known for her experimental work, often fusing modern techno fabrics with more traditional materials, and for her use of experimental cutting techniques.
This skirt is from her Yen denim label, which she refers to as 'retaining its original oriental concept but with a modern twist'. The skirt uses traditional kimono fabric fashioned into a low hipster band from which a pleated chiffon skirt falls. The raw cut hem and transparency of the fabric give the skirt a modern edge. The skirt has a fly fronted jean opening with a concealed zip.
