Coat
Hand-printed cotton coat, 2003. Designed by Eley Kishimoto.
Eley Kishimoto are a South London-based husband and wife team specialising in print. They design clothing, accessories and home wares under their own label and undertake print commissions for other designers. Mark Eley graduated from Brighton Polytechnic in 1990 with a BA in fashion and weave. Wakako Kishimoto graduated from Central Saint Martins two years later with a BA in fashion and print.
This coat combines an interesting textured weave with a historically inspired print that incorporates pomegranates, floral sprays and foliage. The print is carefully matched on the back, front, sleeves and cuffs of the coat. Piping on the pockets, side seams and yoke and the buttons that fasten the coat, cuffs and pockets are also used as unifying details. It was bought at London department store Harvey Nichols, and worn to a wedding.
