Social History — 2003
Badge, lapel badge
This badge was issued by the Stop the War Coalition, a peace organisation founded in London in September 2001 to oppose military intervention in Afghanistan by the United States and Britain in the wake of the September 11th attacks on New York.
The badge features the group's distinctive logo of a green bomb with a diagonal line through it. It was collected by a school student on a demonstration after the beginning of the Iraq War in 2003. The Stop the War Coalition organised the largest demonstration in British history in London on February 15 2003. Approximately two million people marched through the capital in opposition to the planned invasion of Iraq.
