A view of the wilderness with the Alhambra, the Pagoda and the Mosque in the Royal Gardens at Kew
The Pagoda at Kew Gardens was completed in 1762. Designed by William Chambers, it is a ten storey tower, with a projecting roof on each floor. Originally these octagonal roofs were embellished with varnished iron plates and a gold dragon in each corner. Chambers also built an Alhambra, seen to the left and a Mosque shown on the right. Only the pagoda is still there today. Chokushi Mon, the Japanese Gateway, now stands on the site of the Mosque.
