Coat, miniature lounge suit jacket
A double-breasted lounge suit jacket, produced in miniature. Made of black twill weave wool with pinstripe in light brown. It fastens with two black plastic buttons at each side and is unlined, revealing the interlinings of domette at the shoulders and alpaca at the fronts.
The collection of 13 pieces of small clothing was donated to the museum by Sims and MacDonalds when moving from their Gresham Street premises to Holborn due to redevelopment in the area. The half-scale models were created by Harold Sims (then of 118 Bishopsgate) to solve the problems created by fabric shortages and rationing during World War II. The amount of cloth required for each model was approximately three quarters of a yard and the clothes were about half size. The dummies on which the models were displayed were made by Mr. Sims of papier maché on wooden frames.
