Brick
A semi-circular ceramic brick. Bricks such as these would have been used when building columns or as a 'pila' and stacked to support hypocaust flooring in public buildings. It carries the official stamp of PPBRLON ('The procurators of the province of Britain at London').
The tile-making industry, in part, was probably under state control and was one of the responsibilities of the procurator. The distribution of procuratorial tiles, stamped PPBRLON or similar, was densely concentrated in London itself and was mainly confined to London's major public buildings.
