Pen rest
Desktop iron dip pen stand. This object was used in the offices of the manufacturing firm of Smith Kendon Limited.
Founded in 1780 the firm of Smith Kendon manufactured a range of confectionery, jams and medicinal products including their famous ‘Altoids’ breath mints. In the 1860s the firm moved to 128-132 Borough High Street, Southwark, where it remained until 1974. This ledger was one of several items donated to the Museum of London by the firm when it closed its London premises and moved to Wales in 1974.
