Timetable
Coach timetable printed in the form of a verse that lists the destination and departure times of all stagecoaches that departed from the Saracen's Head Inn in Snow Hill. From here passengers could travel on short distance, long distance and express coaches operated by S.A. Mountain and company. Short distance destinations on the timetable include Tottenham and Cheshunt whilst Express trains travelled as far as Scotland. Such timetables were pasted up at the entrance of all stagecoach Inns. For popular journeys passengers would have been required to book in advance. The largest coaches could carry up to 12 passengers but travel was slow and often uncomfortable. A journey from London to Birmingham took 14 hours; by rail the same journey took only six hours.
