Ring, finger ring, mourning ring
Gold mourning ring. The hoop bears the inscription 'E. ORD. OBt. 19. NOVr 1727. AE 25' in gold against a white enamel ground. The bezel is set with table-cut rock crystal covering a skull on a black ground. The back of the bezel is gadrooned and is similar to the back of a cufflink also in the Museum's Collection 39.175/6. This type of ring commemorated the death of an individual and was worn in memory of them.
